This week in Art the students delved into the word of surrealism. Students were taught how the movement was dedicated to express imagination as revealed in dreams and how works featured the element of surprise, the unexpected, the weird and the fantastic.
The surrealists used various games and techniques to develop their artistic process. One of these techniques that the students learned was automatism. Automatism is when the hand is allowed to move by chance and freely.
Then the students were taught the technique of Cubomania, where they had to create a collage from their portraits.
Another surrealist game that the students learned was the Exquisite Corpse.
Exquisite Corpse was a collaborative poetry game or drawing that was played by several people, who composed a sentence or drawing without anyone seeing the preceding collaboration or collaborations.
