Today in the Music minor course students discussed the
differences between opera and musical theatre, analysed the opening scene from
‘Hairspray’, researched the history of musical theatre and the West End in
London, and became directors by appraising a new musical production, ‘Wild
Wood’ by Grimstead and Hamill.
We ended the lesson by singing a few well-known songs from
musical theatre, including tracks from ‘Lion King’, ‘Frozen’, ‘Grease’ and even
‘The Little Mermaid’ (including actions led by Julia and Holly!).
