The driving rain finally stopped yesterday! It was the first day of Winchester 2012 and the students all brought the sunshine with them. What a brilliant start! We woke the morning early with a fire alarm and then had a huge breakfast and into classes everyone went. In breaktime, the tuck shop for charity was up and running and students were eagerly buying doughnuts and other treats knowing that they are contributing to our Kola Tree Fund. Last year Winchester raised enough money to pay for a library full of books at the Kola Tree School in Sierra Leone. We are hoping to beat that this year.
All the classes started really well; in Art they started with their Pointilism projects, in Animation I saw the class go off to make their music video, in Film Making they have started on their storyboards for this weeks film and there are so many exciting and interesting things being done in all the classes. I am already getting excited about the presentations to see what our talented students and teachers have put together.
Yesterday the students went off into Winchester with the Activity Leaders to see the cathedral and they were set some photo challenges which were great and really helped familiarise the students with the town. The evening culminated with 50:50; a series of games and small contests, participated in by both staff and students and were great fun; lots of mess and laughter.
Today, we have had a special visit from Lord Shipley from the House of Lords and he has just finished a presentation and Q and A session with our British History and Culture class; everyone said it was fantastic and extremely informative.
All this and it is only day 2! What fun! So much learning to do! So many people to meet! So much talent!
Keep reading our blog and you can follow the next three weeks of Discovery Summer at Winchester...every year is brilliant but I have a feeling this one is going to be extra special!!
