Debating Week 3

This week we, as the debate class, had to choose a topic and a motion to debate on. On the first day, we tried to get to know each other by playing some games. We asked questions amongst ourselves and broke the ice. Then, we divided into two groups and discussed topics we would like to debate. At the end of the session the topics were:

Euthanasia
Driving at 16
Social Networking Effects on Society

We had a day to choose a final topic. Like in democracy, we voted for the topic we wanted and we chose 'Driving at 16 should be legal` Then, we had to write the motion of the debate, because every debate needs a motion.

Motion: This house believes all those 16 and over should be allowed to drive.

In order to persuade someone, you need to show them statistics and find strong arguments. Therefore, we had to research. We researched for an hour and we found many different opinions.

The next day, we decided who would be in the Proposing Team and Opposing Team. We discussed our information on the topic. Then, we started writing our arguments. After writing the arguments, we chose who was going to talk about each argument. While most of us were discussing the arguments, two of us, Mert and Stef, were preparing this blog.

Tomorrow, we will have the debate which will be great!
