Music: Week 3

This week in Music we have studied music from West Africa, specifically drumming from the region. We have learned how to play the djembes (wooden hourglass-shaped drum) with the correct technique, as well as some of the key terminology surrounding rhythm and percussion. This culminated in an excellent drumming performance as part of Sunday's presentation. Leading the group at various stages of the piece was Duygu Aksel and Katsuya Nishihara.

We also studied British music, focussing on both the development of classical and popular music across the years. This led to a good performance by the Music major class of 'Use Somebody' by Kings of Leon. A noteworthy performance here was by Basak Yurt on piano.

The music presentation culminated in a rousing performance of 'We are Young' by Fun, where we were joined on stage by the members of the Music minor course.

All students have worked really hard across the two weeks of Music this year, both academically and in their performances, and should be extremely proud of their achievements - well done!
