The Kola Tree Charity Day

Discovery Summer is a supporter of the Kola Tree community in Sierre Leone. Over the last few years we have worked hand in hand with the community and Action Aid to build two schools and to provide scholarships for 30 young girls, giving them access to a good education for the first time.

On Thursday we held our annual Charity Day event. There were all manner of stalls with competitions such as who could run the assault course the fastest and who could throw the flip-flop the furthest. We also had some typical English village fête events such as guess how many sweets in the jar and pin the tail on the donkey. We had contributions from staff and students of jewellery, books and music for sale as well as some incredible cakes baked by 4 of our teachers.

We also had our two groups of entrepreneurs from earlier in the week who had only 30 minutes to sell their business ideas.

Alongside this we also had games and busking going on so that all students could participate and enjoy the afternoon.

We finished with the grand finale. First an auction of some Discovery memorabilia including the coveted AL jumper. Then we auctioned off each member of the AL team for a soaking, including the Social Director who was subjected to 3 full buckets of freezing water for the cause.

Everyone had an amazing afternoon in the sunshine and we managed to raise a staggering £800 for the Kola Tree community.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated their time and effort to making this year's Charity Day so wonderful.
