Good leaders are mostly made, not born
We used to think that great leaders were just made that way, that they came from the right stock or the right class of society, or that by luck they were born doing all the right things. As a result, until recently leadership was not studied scientifically it was merely described and admired. We now have the results of serious investigation of leadership, and one of the most important things this shows is that leadership skill can be developed.
Odysseus was certainly made a made a great leader—by Homer!
The first Leadership Skills class worked on identifying key
qualities that a good leader must possess.
Most important qualities are: being a good communicator, who also
connects well with people, having experience, being competent in the field,
possessing determination and commitment to a goal, having respect from others.
Identifying these qualities is a good first step to
developing them, and thus to developing leadership skills.
