Developing Future Diplomats

International Relations Major
This week's International Relations Major has introduced students to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject and focused on both historical and modern case studies.
Today, students undertook a simulation exercise, where each pair took the role of a Great Power in 1914, and then had to use secret negotiation and diplomacy to reach a settlement that would avert war. Some incredibly inventive tactics were employed and completely unexpectedly alliances formed, with the net result meaning that war was not avoided, and Austria-Hungary was completely surrounded!
