Leadership Skills
Discovery Summer Winchester is
tailormade for mature learners who are getting ready to move on to the next stage
of their life. Given the quality of
students who apply to Winchester Discovery, we expect to see many of them in
positions of international leadership in the future.
Our Leadership Skills Minor in
Week 1 is introducing some of the results of recent research into leadership,
and students are engaging in many interactive group exercises designed to bring
out aspects of leadership. This will
enable students to become aware of some of what is required in leadership, and
to start to evaluate themselves in different areas of character and
skills. The rest of the Winchester course
will give many opportunities for individual students to identify leadership areas
and to practise their skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Leadership can be shown in class
discussions, in walking to houses, in team activities, in mealtime interaction
with others, in helping to make the course run smoothly, in looking out for
people who are feeling low, and a million other ways. Staff are always on the lookout for people
who are showing leadership, and skills gained this week may well prove to be
invaluable to our students at university or in positions of responsibility in
later life.
